Sweet Inspiration

Jasminium Polyanthum, Pink Jasmine.

Originally native to Persia and Kashmir, a perfume of love, a symbol of hope.

Intriguing Jasmine, it’s delicate flowers and fine pointed leaves, twining mysteriously to create a maze of fine filigree, while secreting an exquisite seductive fragrance, a heavenly sweet scent.

I  imagine mystical maidens, hiding in secret gardens, concealed by the fine drapes of sweet Jasmine twine, sprouting a rhythm of green leaves and delicate flowers, filling the atmosphere with its divinely hypnotic perfume.

Styling by Marlize and Tarryn

The studio floor, antique French armoire and His Master’s Voice gramophone were filled and draped with masses of sweet Jasmine. The Immagika studio became a magical portal into a world beyond time.

Hair was styled relatively naturalistic, to compliment the Art Nouveau theme.

Make up was inspired by the 1930’s in “Old Postcard Style’ of black and white images, in which eyes, cheeks and lips where coloured in doll-like fashion by aquarelle or coloured pencil.  A look that is both fresh, naïve and glamorously nostalgic.

The addition of headpieces and accessories, lends a magical and interesting contrast to the organic setting, delicate fabrics and feminine shapes.

The Garments

The dresses featured are nostalgic, delicately textured, pale, monotone, vintage-lace bridal gowns, featuring fine lace fabrics, embroidered with beads, employing the Luneville hook. Luneville embroidery, also known as Tambour beading, is a highly regarded haute couture embellishment technique, to compliment the intricate textures and pattern of the Jasmine.

1. Corneill

A Victorian inspired, tulle bridal gown, in corseted, ballerina ballgown-style with off the shoulder French Chantilly lace bodice and French Chantilly lace semi-overskirt.

The lace is delicately decorated with the tiniest of Bohemian crystals and a delicate satin-ribbon belt with bow that accentuates the waistline.

2. Cameo

Satin Charmeuse overlayed with distressed English tulle and Tambour lace, embroidered and encrusted with glass baguettes and seed beads in the Luneville method and embellished with Swarovski crystals.

Sassy satin ribbon-bows and roses adds dimension and completes this period inspired balconette gown.

3. Spirit

A stylistic, modern yet whimsical dress with diaphanous mystical character, crafted in embroidered tulle and encrusted with eye catching facetted crystals reminiscent of sunlight dancing on shimmering raindrops.

4. Nostalgia

A romantic old fashioned girl of delicately textured lace, lovingly sculpts the feminine form, flaring into a trained skirt with a scalloped eyelash lace border.

The Delightful Result

We could be no happier with our first collaboration with Tarryn Goldman Photography on this Spring fashion editorial.

Tarryn understood and captured our vision, on an instinctive level, creating images that captures the imagination and takes you on a journey that delights all the senses.

With her artistic eye and sense of composition, she painted our story in beautiful chiaroscuro light, lovely lines, textures and nostalgic, mostly monochrome colour.
